The Debbies
From 1979-81, the Debbies explored an eerie blend of thrash, reggae and funk in live shows at memorable venues such as the Gorilla Room, Oddfellows Hall, Wrex, Bahamas Underground, Portland's Urban Noise Club and Tacoma's Diggers Tavern opening for San Francisco's legendary Pink Section.
The band's actual stage debut was at Seattle's prime punk palace, the Showbox Theater, opening for British new-wavers, Fingetprintz. The Seattle Weekly acknowledged the band by featuring their photo on the magazine's cover. The Seattle Times noted that the Debbies were "danceable" but seemed befuddled that the band "doesn't have any females, let alone anyone named Debbie."
